Modeling the dynamics of hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) within single cells and 3D cell culture systems

The long-term collaboration with University of Liverpool, UK has focused on modeling of oxygen diffusion across complex 3D cell models such as tumor spheroids. The mathematical model based on measurements performed by Dr. A. Fercher and Prof. D. Papkovsky on wide-field PLIM microscope, was recently published in Mathematical Biosciences journal. The full-text can be found here .

Comparison of the three optical platforms for measurement of cellular respiration

PhD candidate A. Kondrashina with Prof. D. Papkovsky and V. Ogurtsov (from Tyndall National institute) have published joint research paper describing method of conversion of cellular oxygen consumption rates into intracellular oxygen concentrations. The paper entitled "Comparison of the three optical platforms for measurement of cellular respiration" is published in Analytical Biochemistry journal. The full text can be found here .

18th International microscopy congress, Prague, 7-12 September 2014

Prof. D. Papkovsky (head of the lab) and Dr. A. Zhdanov (research support officer) attended 18th international microscopy congress in Prague, Czech Republic. This is one of the largest scientific conferences in Europe on microscopy which gathers > 3,000 participants. Prof. D. Papkovsky presented talk entitled "Imaging of oxygenation in 3D tissue models by means of cell-penetrating phosphorescent nanosensors". Dr. A. Zhdanov presented a poster on "3D mapping of tissue oxygen in chronically inflamed mouse bladder". More info about the meeting can be found here .
